2 Timothy 2

Be Strong

1 You therefore, my ^{▼▼Or child
,} ^bson, ^cbe strong in the grace that is in ^dChrist Jesus. 2 The things ^ewhich you have heard from me in the presence of ^fmany witnesses, ^gentrust these to ^hfaithful ^{▼▼Or men}people who will be ^jable to teach others also. 3 ^kSuffer hardship with me, as a good ^lsoldier of ^mChrist Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service ⁿentangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him. 5 And if someone likewise ^ocompetes as an athlete, he is not ^{▼▼I.e., with a wreath}crowned as victor unless he competes according to the rules. 6 ^qThe hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

8 Remember Jesus Christ, ^rrisen from the dead, ^sdescendant of David, ^taccording to my gospel, 9 ^{▼▼Lit in which}for which I ^vsuffer hardship even to ^wimprisonment as a ^xcriminal; but ^ythe word of God ^zis not imprisoned. 10 For this reason ^aaI endure all things for ^abthe sake of ^{▼▼Or the chosen}those who are chosen, ^adso that they also may obtain the ^aesalvation which is in ^afChrist Jesus and with it ^ageternal glory. 11 ^ahThe statement is trustworthy:

For ^aiif we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12 If we endure, ^ajwe will also reign with Him;
If we ^{▼▼Lit will deny
,} ^aldeny Him, He will also deny us;
13 If we are faithless, ^amHe remains faithful, for ^anHe cannot deny Himself.

An Unashamed Worker

14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly ^aoexhort them in the presence of God not to ^apdispute about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the listeners. 15 Be diligent to ^aqpresent yourself approved to God as a worker who ^{▼▼Or has no reason to}does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling ^asthe word of truth. 16 But ^atavoid ^auworldly and empty chatter, for ^{▼▼Lit they will make further progress in ungodliness}it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their ^{▼▼Lit word}talk will spread like ^{▼▼Or cancer}gangrene. Among them are ^ayHymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that ^azthe resurrection has already taken place; and they are jeopardizing ^bathe faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the ^bbfirm foundation of God stands, having this ^bcseal: “ ^bdThe Lord knows those who are His;” and, “ ^beEveryone who names the name of the Lord is to keep away from wickedness.”

20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver implements, but also implements of wood and of earthenware, and ^bfsome are for honor while others are for dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from ^bgthese things, he will be an implement for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, ^bhprepared for every good work. 22 Now ^biflee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, ^bjfaith, love, and peace with those who ^bkcall on the Lord ^blfrom a pure heart. 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant ^bmspeculations, knowing that they ^bnproduce ^{▼▼Lit fightings}quarrels. 24 ^bpThe Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, ^bqskillful in teaching, patient when wronged, 25 ^brwith gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, ^bsif perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to ^btthe knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from ^buthe snare of the devil, having been ^bvheld captive ^{▼▼Or by him, to do His will}by him to do his will.
